Facelift

Facial aging is the result of gravity-induced descent of facial tissue and solar effects on the facial skin. The most obvious of these changes are deepening folds between the cheek and the lip, and the formation of “jowls” along the line of the jaw. Loosening of the neck skin or formation of “double chin” completes the gravitational triad. In contrast, solar damage produces fine wrinkling, patchy pigmentation, scaling and prominent capillaries.

Modern plastic surgery can address both problems separately and with excellent effect. Whilst the effects of “photo-aging” can be corrected by laser therapy or peel treatments, a traditional facelift is the best way to correct the effects of gravity.

Through a barely noticeable incision in front and behind the ear, the skin and deeper tissue of the cheek and neck can be dissected and repositioned into a more natural, youthful configuration. The cheek folds are smoothed out, the jowls lifted, restoring the smooth sweep of the jaw line, and the loose neck skin can be trimmed to re-create a pleasing natural neck-chin angle. Facelifting surgery is often combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures, such as eyelid surgery, browlift and chin augmentation to achieve complete and balanced facial rejuvenation.
